Setting the Course for 2018: Priorities for Industry Resources

Dec 29, 2017

The Events Industry Council is committed to developing and sharing resources to advance our industry. As part of the 2017 CMP Conclave, the following topics were prioritized for the APEX Standards Committee:

  1. Mindful Design
  2. Value of the Event Professional
  3. Curation
  4. Safety and Security
  5. Poaching
  6. eRFP practices
  7. Multi-Generational meetings
  8. Cybersecurity

We recognize that different approaches are needed for these topics. In some cases, we need to develop or innovate new tools, while for other topics we need to raise awareness of existing tools and encourage their adoption. Here’s what to expect to see from us in 2018.

Innovate

We are in the process of developing new tools and resources on safety and security. First on our list will be a white paper on cybersecurity best practices, as well as a site inspection questionnaire. As a preview, check out our on-demand webinar on cybersecurity best practices.

Educate

In addition to our monthly webinars, look for us to provide face-to-face education at industry events around the world. We’ve also relaunched our Sustainable Event Professional Certificate and are looking for opportunities to co-locate this programme with our members’ events.

Curate

In 2018, we’ll put a greater focus on curating exceptional content from our members and industry leaders. For example, if you’re looking for great tools on mindful meeting design, take a look at this white paper commissioned by PSAV from BrainStrength Systemsand Janet Sperstad, CMP.

Activate

In recent years, we’ve developed tools for poaching and piracy prevention and response as well as on best practices for eRFPs. These tools will be refreshed in 2018, along with other legacy documents.

Calculate

In 2018, look for an updated Economic Significance Study, results from our current survey on the state of sustainability and other survey requests to collect the data needed to better articulate the value of the event professional, and to provide you with better tools for benchmarking and decision making.

Fascinate

Last but not least, watch our blog for case studies to inspire and fascinate, including stories from our award winners.
