Get ready for an immersive workshop – whether you are new or a veteran of the Life Science industry – there will be something for everyone. This session will cover challenging topics facing the healthcare industry, in addition to providing insight on the CMP-HC program. The session will open with an overview and benefits of the CMP-HC certification program followed by a facilitated discussion on industry challenges faced by meeting planners and suppliers in the industry today. You will learn valuable knowledge on obtaining industry specific CEUs and accreditations as well as understanding technology supported services. Lunch will be provided for all in attendance.

Aleka Garcia is currently Executive Director, Strategic Solutions & Compliance for Pacific Communications which is a full-service, fully integrated global provider of healthcare communications, specializing in new product marketing development, launch, and all forms of marketing communications engagement.

Aleka has over 15 years in the medical communications arena including CME content development, KOL development, tradeshows and meeting management with a special focus on HCP meetings and compliance for the past 6 years. Aleka is the Vice Chair for the CMP Governance Commission and was integral in helping to develop and launch the CMP-HC exam. Agnès Canonica, CMP, CMM, HMCC

Global Account Director, Corporate Meetings & Events

Born and raised in the south of France, Agnès also lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Grand Case, St. Martin prior to moving to the United States in 1981. She is fluent in French and Spanish and has a working knowledge of Brazilian Portuguese. Her career in the meetings industry started by owning her own incentive company for over a decade, and since 2003, Agnès has been working for third-party CMI top 25 meeting agencies, responsible for implementation, growth, and leading International teams and accounts across the globe, delivering programs in over 50 countries.

Agnès joined MCI USA in 2017 to lead the Corporate Meetings & Events division across multiple industry sectors. As a thought leader/subject matter expert in the meetings industry, Agnès is frequently invited as a contributor on SMMP, International, Life Sciences and career growth subjects, in addition to serving as an advisory board member for various global hotel brands & CVBs. Canonica obtained her Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation in 2000, Certification in Meeting Management (CMM) in March 2008, as well as her Healthcare Meeting Compliance Certificate (HMCC) in 2015. Agnès is also an active member of the Healthcare Businesswomen's Association (HBA) and currently serving a three-year term on the CIC CMP Governance Commission.

Erica Klein

Director of Certification, Events Industry Council

Erica Klein serves as the Director of Certification for the Events Industry Council (formerly known as the Convention Industry Council). Erica has nearly ten years of experience working with more than ten client associations, managing and developing certification programs of varying size and specialty. In her role as Director of Certification, Erica provides strategic guidance and oversight to the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) program, including project management, policy development & implementation, program growth & enhancement, delivery, and evaluation. Erica provides both leadership and collaboration to the CMP Governance Commission, subject matter experts, and testing vendors to proactively manage the entire certification process from exam creation and delivery to maintenance to expanded growth.

In addition to her vast certification experience, Erica also has experience managing a variety of client meetings in various healthcare and business trade industries. She brings extensive organizational and communication skills to manage ten annual meetings a year ranging from two to fifty concurrent sessions.

Prior to joining the Events Industry Council, Erica served as Assistant Director or Administration for Huntington Learning Center. In her role, she was responsible for daily management of the center including scheduling, payroll, client files, financial records, and student and teacher files. She was also responsible for overseeing the diagnostic testing process for new students and directing the grass roots marketing projects and local advertising activities in the community.
